Theo Triantafyllidis + UnitedFutures – June 16, 2018

Big Pictures Los Angeles is pleased to present a one night event featuring the work of two artists working with virtual environments and digital characters. Theo Triantafyllidis will project a new piece on the gallery’s facade entitled Smoke Break. The piece is a continuation of his most recent work in which an Ork avatar takes on the role of an Artist. Concurrently UnitedFutures will present a new VR piece in the gallery entitled #SociallyReSponsorable, where through the use of projections and immersive 360 video the viewer is transported to an idealized branded after party.

A reception will be held Saturday, June 16th, 2018, 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Triantafyllidis’ Smoke Break will be on view from the exterior of the building from June 12th – June 19th, 8:00pm – 2:00am.

Theo Triantafyllidis, Smoke Break.

It’s been a long day
Need to chill
Take a break
Working in VR can be taxing
It’s not the weight of the headset or the controllers
It’s more the screen that is stuck to your eyeballs
And the movement in space
It’s the objects. They have no weight but the body seems to put the effort in anyway
It’s the labour of the avatar that is projected to the physical body
And just the thinking about stuff
Virtual fatigue is a real thing
How long does a smoke break last?
